Rental Housing Affordability Indexes
The Rental Housing Affordability Indexes measure the rental component of housing affordability at median owner incomes and median renter incomes. Two affordability indexes are provided:
The Rental Housing Affordability Indexes answer these questions, “What is the percent of the typical owner income that is required to afford the typical rented home?” and “What is the percent of the typical renter income that is required to afford the typical rented home?”
Since owner incomes are usually much higher than renter incomes, these measures help pinpoint the affordability problem by market segment.
